All JBJS Editors are encouraged to help solicit articles from potential authors. This can include high-impact scientific studies presented at meetings or conferences, or opinion-based pieces (“Perspectives”) on a topic of interest. Acceptance is not guaranteed for solicited articles and all invited submissions should undergo the standard peer review process.
If you have an article in mind that you’d like to solicit, reach out to the Editorial Office and the Editor-in-Chief with your idea and the name of the prospective author. Once the Editor-in-Chief approves, you may reach out to the prospective author directly or the Editorial Office can assist with outreach.
Once the author has confirmed their interest in submitting the article, the Editorial Office will send a formal invitation through Editorial Manager. Solicited articles can be identified in Editorial Manager by their article type name, which will always begin with “Invited” (e.g., Invited Viewpoint). Invited submissions are typically assigned to the Editor who proposed the article.
